Five Faced Hanuman Temple

Highly revered by the Hindus, the temple of Five Faced Hanuman is only 2 km from the Ramanathaswamy Temple also known as Panchamukha Anjaneya. It is belief- that Hanumana revealed his five-faced form for the first time in this place. Application of sindoor to the statue of Lord Hanuman- worshiped with complete devotion.

The temple here enshrines the statues of Rama, Laxman and Sita. It is a belief that there is a use of floating stone in the temple during Sethu Bandhanam as mentioned in the Ramayana. It is one of the most sacred places in Rameshwaram India.

Adam’s Bridge, also known as Rama Setu, connects Sri Lanka’s northwest coast to India’s Rameshwaram island.  It is a chain of limestone shoals starting from Dhanushkodi tip of India’s Pamban Island. A 2 km long bridge connects India’s mainland to Pamban Island. In order to reach Sri Lanka and save his wife Sita from Ravana, Lord Rama and his monkey allies built a floating bridge. As a result, Adam’s Bridge is known as Ram Sethu Bridge by Indians. It is also known by the name of Nala Setu as Nala, the son of Lord Vishwakarma was the architect of this Bridge.

The beach is also known as Khushi Beach and has enough facilities for boating, swimming and water sports. Those who never wish to leave the beach can opt to stay at one of the cottages by the seashore.

Water Bird Sanctuary

Nature-lovers will be delighted to find a number of bird sanctuaries that can be visited on day trips from Tamilnadu Rameshwaram. Arichamunai Bird Sanctuary, near Dhanushkodi, is closest to Ramasharam. Go from December to March, and you may be lucky enough to see flamingos that have flown all the way from Australia. They stand together in the sea looking for food.

Chitrangudi and Kanjirankulam sanctuaries are also worth visiting on the mainland. They’re both situated near Mudukulathur in the Ramanathapuram district of Tamil Nadu, a couple of hours from Rameshwaram. Another option is the relatively new Sakkarakottai Bird Sanctuary, only an hour from Rameshwaram on the mainland. Most of the birds are there between October and March. They include plentiful painted storks, pelicans, egrets and ibis.

Annai Indira Gandhi Road Bridge

The Annai Indira Gandhi Road Bridge, also known as the Pamban Bridge, crosses the Palk Strait between Rameswaram Island and the mainland of India, claiming to be the country’s first sea bridge. The name originally exclusively applied to the train route that had a double leaf bascule part in the middle.

This double leaf bascule functions well till date and it can be raised to let ships go. The bi-lane road passing next to this bridge is another attraction in Pamban and obviously allows you to have a glimpse of the railway bridge if you are driving over the bridge. This 100-year-old bridge contains 143 pillars, each of which is 220 feet in length and 100 tonnes in weight.

APJ Abdul Kalam House or the House of Kalam is the residence of former President of India, an accomplished scientist and an inspirational figure. This is the place where he was raised by his parents along with his siblings. The home is now a museum where visitors may learn about Abdul Kalam’s life and accomplishments.

As well as being a popular president who served from 2002 to 2007, Kalam was a respected scientist who specialized in aerospace engineering. The museum’s exhibits narrate the story of his life and achievements. It’s located on Mosque Street and is open from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m.

One of the 64 sacred baths in Rameshwaram, the Agnitheertham is one of the most important theertham and receives many tourists each day. Located on the beach side of Sri Ramanathaswamy temple, Agnitheertham is the only theertham sited outside the temple complex.

In the Sanskrit language, the word agni means fire; while the word theertham means holy water. Ancient writings and mythological tales frequently refer to Agnitheertham as a Hindu pilgrimage that is of great significance. The devotees visiting the theertham offer their prayers to the deity and atone their sins by taking a dip in the holy waters.
