The educational contributions of Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan

According to Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan, education is the acquisition of knowledge outside of the traditional academic modes. If we limit education to the mindless memory of facts and statistics or bookish learning, in his opinion, it is pointless. The mind shouldn’t be overloaded with useless knowledge. It is also improper to memorize concepts from books and apply them word for word in exams in order to obtain certifications and degrees required for employment.

Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan’s most significant contribution to education is the University Education Commission Report (1940–1949). According to this report, he recommended –

  2. Education is important to usher in democratic processes in the nation. It is a source to keep in touch with one’s culture.

Education should be such that it instills a purpose in one’s life, making it worthy and meaningful.
